U13’s are Dublin Cup Winners

March 9, 2015

Pride of place goes to the U13 girls who today won their second consecutive Dublin Cup final with a 45 to 24 points victory over Meteors. Meteors started the game really well and had the best of the first half to lead at half-time 16 to 13.The Celtics girls got into their stride in the third quarter and a mix of tough defense and great scoring saw them open a twelve point game which they maintained to the end of the match. Well done to a great bunch of girls and to their mentors Sharon, Jimmy, Ailbhe and Aoife.
It was a great weekend of cup action for our team and supporters. Our under 14, 15, 16 and 17 teams were also in cup final action, they may not have taken home the silverware but they contributed to some great games and a great DLBB pink weekend.
After a brilliant U12 game, which Oblate Dynamos won with a great final quarter in front of a great home support, it was the U14 girls final with Liffey Celtics facing off to Meteors. Both of these teams have had great games over the past two years with only ever one score between them. Meteors had the better of this game, with their post player showing some great moves and scores. The Celtics girls never gave up however and came back into the game with a terrific last quarter. A final inbound play with seconds left on the clock we had a chance to take the game, but it didn’t come off. Well done to Meteors and to the Liffey Celtics girls who made it a nail-bitting final.
The U16 girl’s final was next, and the Liffey Celtics girls as the cup holders took on DCU Mercy. This was ding dong battle throughout with only a score between them the whole way through the first half. The Celtics girls had a great third quarter and took an eight point lead. In an intense fourth quarter, DCU Mercy came fighting back and came through to take a two point victory.
DCU Mercy also took an impressive victory in the U18 final against Templeogue and followed that up with a good victory over Liffey Celtics in the U15 final. DCU Mercy was always on top in the U15 final, but our girls fought the whole way through and pushed Mercy the whole way. Hard luck to our U15’s and U16’s., and well done to DCU Mercy on their three cups.
On Sunday morning Liffey Celtiics faced off to KUBS in the U17 final. KUBs started with an intensity that we did not match and were on top in the first two quarters. The Celtics girls came back into it in the second half and made it a very intense and interesting final quarter, and with a little more luck could have made it a one score game. Well done to KUBs on retaining the U17 cup – they gave a brilliant display of three point shooting.
