Good luck to Aoife & Shannen who are travelling with their Ireland U16 team to the European Championships in Porto, Portugal, on Tuesday July 30th. The team has a couple of days to acclimatise before they open their account with a difficult opening game against Germany on Thursday 1st August. This will be followed by two further group games over the weekend against Denmark and host country Portugal, and then by a series of qualifier games, depending upon where Ireland finish in their group.

As part of their fundraising, Shannen and Aoife took part in the Women’s Mini marathon on the 3rd June. The girls got plenty of help from their families – mothers Audrey and Sharon, Shannen’s grandmother Kathleen Holbrook, and friends Aoife Masterson and Patsy Donoghue also took part in the mini marathon. All the sponsorship they raised for this event was split 50/50 between the U16 Ireland Team fund and St Brigids Hospice in the Curragh. They raised just over €1987 – of which the girls donated €993.50 to St. Brigids Hospice in the Curragh.

Pictured above are the girls, with Mr. Colm Purcell, Leixlip Town Council, presenting the cheque to Eileen McDonald from St. Brigids Hospice. Shannen and Aoife would like to thank all their family and friends who supported them with their fundraising over the past year. The girls would also like to say a big Thank You to all of their mentors and coaches who have helped them since the joined Liffey Celtics.
