Girls do the business at the Dublin Cup finals

March 6, 2017

Liffey Celtics was well represented at the Dublin Ladies cup finals on the weekend of March 5th and 6th, at the Oblate Hall in Inchicore. Four of Celtics underage teams (U12, U13, U14 and U16) made it through to the Dublin Cup finals and in a fantastic weekend for the club, all four took home their respective, much to the delight of a large group of supporters and family members. Congratulations to all of our teams, their coaches and team managers.

The U12 Girls final took place on the Saturday morning at 10am. An early start, but the Celtics girls got going early against northside Dublin rivals, Killester. All fifteen of the girls played their part in a great skillful game played by both teams.

Next up, was the U14 girls final at 11.30am, and again it was Killester and Liffey Celtics. It was another close game, and it was only in the last quarter that the Celtics girls got some daylight between themselves and Killester.

The U16 girls final took place at 1pm. Meteors played Liffey Celtics and this was a cracking intense game between two teams who have had a great rivalry over the previous seasons. Liffey Celtics held the ascendency in the second half, Meteors kept in touch the whole way. With up to eight U16 Ireland international development panelists on the court this was a splendid game of basketball. Celtics U16s held out for a third cup victory in a row for Liffey Celtics.

Liffey Celtics U13 Girls also got in on the act, at the U13 Girls cup final versus Templeogue on the Sunday morning. A big crowd roared on both sides, and the Liffey Celtics girls rose to the occasion to claim a fourth cup for the club.
