Who we are
Liffey Celtics Basketball Club was established in 2003. Based in Leixlip, we draw 99% of our membership from the immediate areas of Leixlip, Lucan and North Kildare. The club’s name, Liffey Celtics, represents our Kildare and Dublin based origins and membership source. The club has grown year after year and now boasts a fantastic level of participation for girls and boys from the age of 7. The club is entirely operated and run by volunteer coaches, team managers and committee members who are dedicated to helping players reach their true potential.
Basketball Ireland Club Of The Year
Season 2010/2011 represented a great milestone for the club with our under 12, under 13 and under 14 girls teams taking league and cup honours, our senior ladies winning the National League in March 2011, culminating with the club being awarded Basketball Ireland’s Club of the Year. Over the years our players have represented Liffey Celtics with pride and distinction, with many going on to represent Dublin, Leinster and Ireland as a whole.
Liffey Celtics continued to progress year on year with increased participation level, particularly the boys / men’s side of the club with a new underage boys team being introduced each year. This culminated to season 2016/17 with Liffey Celtics introducing its first Men’s Senior side which played in the Dublin Division 5 league.
Indeed season 2016/17 brought another major milestone to the club, with the club superleague side Courtyard Liffey Celtics winning the Basketball Ireland Womens Superleague title for the first time, culminating in a great season which also saw the side reach the Superleague Cup final. In the same season Liffey Celtics U16 girls won the All-Ireland Club Championship (AICC) following on the success of our U14 girls who took the AICC in the previous season.
Season 2017/18 will see the club run 23 teams – teams at all underage groups for girls and boys, two senior ladies and two senior mens teams.
